The hotel sector of the hospitality industry accounts for around <\/span>1% of global carbon emissions<\/span><\/a>. This might not sound like a lot, but based on the <\/span>data from 2023<\/span><\/a>, this amounts to around 37,400,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.\u00a0 So, how do you go about reducing that amount in the hotel industry?\"6<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Take Fairmont Hotels, who has been an environmental leader for over 30 years. They quite literally wrote the book on sustainability for the hotel sector and continue to pave the way for other hotels to follow suit. Let\u2019s take a page out of their strategy and zoom in on how they did it. <\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning with a clear strategy and goals, their <\/span>6 pillars<\/span><\/a> target their guests, staff, partners, communities, buildings, and food.\u00a0 <\/span>These 6 areas of work allow them to hone their goals for each target group. From there, they established 4 environmental goals to tailor each target group\u2019s outcome to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  2. Reduce water usage<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Reduce amount of waste<\/span><\/li>\n

    With these 4 goals, they are able to tackle some of the <\/span>largest issues<\/span><\/a> concerning pollution and climate change worldwide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
