This rule, going into effect in two parts, will raise the payment expectations for these\u00a0workers by over $23,000 annually.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As a hospitality staffing company, we recognize the keen impact this rule will have on the food service industry and related sectors. Increased salary for \u201cwhite collar\u201d employees<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The term \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/w\/whitecollar.asp#:~:text=Investopedia%20%2F%20Jiaqi%20Zhou-,What%20Is%20White%20Collar%3F,manual%20labor%20at%20their%20jobs.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">white collar<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d employees refer to those who are usually in managerial or administrative roles. They usually work in an office and are at least an arm\u2019s length away from manual labor. These are positions such as hotel and restaurant managers and executive chef positions due to their specialized skills.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The final rule increases the current salaried threshold from $35,568\/year ($684\/week) to $43,888\/year ($844\/week) by July 1st and then $58,656\/year ($1,128\/week) by January 1, 2025.\u00a0The increase in salary aims to compensate for the overtime hours that they often end up working but are ineligible to be paid for as they are salaried employees. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>2. Increased total annual compensation for bona fide highly compensated employees:<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Highly compensated employees must meet one of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/h\/highly-compensated-employee.asp\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">two qualifications<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: 1) they must own at least 5% of the business during the current or previous year, and\/or 2) their compensation must be above $150,000 in 2023 and be in the top 20% of the company&#8217;s pay.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With the final rule, the total annual salary for bona fide <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/h\/highly-compensated-employee.asp#:~:text=If%20you%20receive%20compensation%20in,and%20401(k)s.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">highly compensated employees<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> will increase from $107,432\/year to $132,964\/year by July 1st and then to $151,164\/year by January 1, 2025. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>3.
