The Dangers of Employee Burnout<\/strong><\/h5>\n

According to the National Restaurant Association, there are almost one million unfilled jobs in the hotel and restaurant industries. Coupled with historically low unemployment, hiring has consistently been one of the biggest challenges\u00a0<\/span>in hospitality. This means that when you\u2019ve got a g<\/span>reat<\/span>\u00a0employee, you want to keep them on your team for as long as possible.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All work and no play<\/strong><\/p>\n

Burnout plays a huge role\u00a0<\/span>in a business’s ability to retain an employee. Unfortunately,\u00a0<\/span>most<\/span>\u00a0workers in\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>hospitality industry\u00a0<\/span>are familiar with burnout, due in part to long hours, little to no<\/span>\u00a0days off, and\u00a0<\/span>the fact that\u00a0working in a customer facing role can sometimes be draining.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a manager, it\u2019s important\u00a0<\/span>to notice signs of burnout and work to prevent it from escalating.\u00a0<\/span>These can include change in\u00a0<\/span>personality<\/span>, lack of motivation, or\u00a0<\/span>complacency.\u00a0<\/span>Worst case scenario, a burnt-out worker will quit, leaving a vacancy on your team\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>a difficult hiring environment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prevention<\/strong><\/p>\n

Luckily there are several ways to\u00a0<\/span>prevent burnout. At LGC, our employe<\/span>es benefit from the ability to choose their own schedule, thanks\u00a0<\/span>to the flexibility of staffing and\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>gig economy.\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>llowing employees\u00a0<\/span>to have some say when it comes to their schedule can\u00a0<\/span>help them feel more in control and less overwhelmed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another way to prevent employee burnout is\u00a0<\/span>by respecting their\u00a0<\/span>personal time<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>If you\u2019re looking to cover a shift and an employee says they can\u2019t,<\/span>\u00a0respect their decision without pushing the matter. This shows that you understand and appreciate the<\/span>ir<\/span>\u00a0life outside work.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
