There\u2019s a common myth<\/a> around the holidays that employers aren\u2019t looking to hire as the calendar year comes to a close. While it\u2019s true that many employers aren\u2019t actively expanding their teams during the holiday season, that\u2019s not the case for everyone\u2014especially if you\u2019ve already got an \u201cin.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking to turn your seasonal job into a permanent position, here are five things you can do to stand out:<\/p>\n

1. Be On Time<\/strong><\/h4>\n

One of the worst things you can do in this situation is show up late consistently. Life happens, especially during winter, but aim to arrive 5-10 minutes early as a rule of thumb. Punctuality shows reliability and commitment. If you have to be late or call off, make sure you notify someone in advance and try to find someone to cover your shift.<\/p>\n

2. Be Present<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A short-term position is an excellent opportunity to connect with coworkers and full-time staff. Ask questions, learn as much as you can, and demonstrate genuine interest in the company. Building relationships with managers and colleagues now can pay off later.<\/p>\n
