During the holidays<\/span>, we like to partner with an organization that is important to LGC\u00a0<\/span>and our community. This December\u00a0<\/span>we had the opportunity to give back to Ronald McDonald House\u00a0<\/span>(RMH)\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0Indianapolis<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0In\u00a0addition to the\u00a0<\/span>impact\u00a0<\/span>RMH has on those who use its service,\u00a0<\/span>this charity\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>s particularly close to us because a member of our corporate team\u00a0<\/span>has personal experience\u00a0<\/span>with them.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RMH Impact on LGC<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Below, Brianna shares her story\u00a0<\/span>and sheds light on just how\u00a0<\/span>much of an impact they can have during\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>unimaginable\u00a0time<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>My brother\u00a0<\/span>Jameson was born\u00a0in\u00a0March of 2003\u00a0in\u00a0Muncie,\u00a0IN. He wasn\u2019t breathing well and was\u00a0<\/span>immediately\u00a0<\/span>put on oxygen. Later that night, he was moved to a ventilator and was then transferred to Riley Children\u2019s Hospital\u00a0in\u00a0Indianapolis the next day.\u00a0<\/span>He was diagnosed with\u00a0pulmonary hypertension<\/span>;\u00a0<\/span>high blood pressure\u00a0in\u00a0his lungs causing them to nearly collapse<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jameson was delivered via C-Section, but my mom was discharged right away (even though typically a woman would stay\u00a0in\u00a0the hospital for 3+ days after a C-section)\u00a0in\u00a0order to go to Riley. The first night, my parents slept\u00a0in\u00a0the hospital, but the next day a room\u00a0<\/span>opened<\/span>\u00a0at the Ronald McDonald House next to the hospital. After that school week, I traveled down to\u00a0Indy and spent the entire spring break of my 6th grade year of\u00a0<\/span>school\u00a0staying<\/span>\u00a0at the RMH.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ro<\/span>oms at the Ronald McDonald house are provided to families<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>at no cost or\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>a small donation per day<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0that live outside of\u00a0<\/span>Indianapolis but<\/span>\u00a0have children in Indianapolis-area hospitals in order to keep families as together as possible during tough times. Meals are provided<\/span>\u00a0or\u00a0<\/span>donated almost every night by various churches<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>community groups<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0there\u00a0<\/span>is a pantry stocked with food at all times<\/span>\u00a0for anyone staying at the house, there are washer<\/span>\u00a0and d<\/span>ryers with all needed materials provided<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 all for free<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hygiene products are provided by the house or various community groups. There is a fully stocked library and game room and a private courtyard with a playground.\u00a0<\/span>But<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>m<\/span><\/b>ost importantly, they provide a private, comfortable room for families to sleep<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><\/b>shower throughout their child\u2019s stay at the hospital. The goal is to make a\u00a0<\/span><\/b>terrible time less stressful by providing necessary amenities.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My mom and dad would have been\u00a0in\u00a0a very different state-of-mind had they had to stay at the hospital every night for that long stay without a proper bed<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>shower<\/span>, or\u00a0<\/span>food. My mom was\u00a0in\u00a0pain\u00a0trying to heal from a C-section, while dealing with her newborn being\u00a0in\u00a0the ICU at a hospital an hour away from home. While the stress of how sick Jameson was\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>horrible<\/span>, because of the RMH we had a little bit of peace throughout our time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Riley Hospital is an amazing hospital and is the reason my brother is alive, but\u00a0<\/span>Ronald McDonald House and the wonderful things they provide are often forgotten<\/span><\/b>, and we\u2019re grateful to them<\/span><\/b>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
