Whether\u00a0<\/span>it’s<\/span>\u00a0because of capacity or distancing requirements, lower sales,\u00a0<\/span>or health concerns, one thing is for sure: the hospitality industry looks different today than it did at the beginning<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>this year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the vast<\/span>\u00a0economic<\/span>\u00a0changes to the industry compared to this ti<\/span>me last year,\u00a0<\/span>The NPD Group reports<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u201cfound that transactions declined just 18% during the week ended May 24.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>lthough it\u2019s likely business will continue to pick up, it\u2019<\/span>s important to remember that\u00a0<\/span>rolling lockdowns<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are possible \u2013 meaning it\u2019s not time to relax just yet.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/b><\/b>1. Analyze <\/span><\/b>existing expenditures for necessity<\/span><\/b>
\nOne of<\/span>\u00a0the biggest issue<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0that has come from COVID-19 (besides health and safety concerns) is a lack of funds due to\u00a0<\/span>low sales. To make up for some of the missing funds,\u00a0<\/span>management should\u00a0<\/span>review all expenditures for necess<\/span>ity and adjust from there. For example, food\u00a0<\/span>costs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A<\/span>re there\u00a0<\/span>dishe<\/span>s you can remove from your menu,\u00a0<\/span>can you combine\/create new dishes that utilize more of your\u00a0<\/span>food items<\/span>?<\/span>\u00a0By removing\u00a0<\/span>menu items\u00a0<\/span>that aren\u2019t\u00a0integral to\u00a0<\/span>your operation, you\u2019ll be able to allocate those funds to something more pressing. Plus, this might be a good time to re-evaluate your menu in general if you haven\u2019t done so in more tha<\/span>n a year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Investigate new avenues for payroll funding<\/span><\/b>
\nPaying employees is another main issue that arose from the coronavirus\u00a0<\/span>shutdowns<\/span>. In some cases, restaurants could not afford to\u00a0<\/span>reopen because they couldn\u2019t compensate the employees they need to get up and running again.\u00a0<\/span>By finding alternative payroll funding<\/span>, you can get back to business\u00a0<\/span>and continue to support your employees and guests<\/span>\u00a0long-term.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
