Recently businesses across the country\u00a0were given the (conditional) green light to begin allowing customers into their stores to resume some-what normal operations. But with the recent\u00a0increase in new coronavirus cases, the chance of having to reinstitute a lock down isn\u2019t unrealistic. With this uncertainty looming, it\u2019s difficult for businesses to plan for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

4\u00a0Ways\u00a0to Help Businesses Survive the Pandemic<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In the\u00a0<\/span>first part<\/span><\/a>\u00a0of this two-part series, our CEO George\u00a0<\/span>Lessmeister<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>covers a few steps restaurants can take to\u00a0<\/span>help them survive the pandemic. \nYour first step should be to communicate with your target audience\u00a0<\/span>on\u00a0<\/span>what you\u2019re doing to provide a safe environment, whether you\u2019re open now or in the future.\u00a0<\/span>These strategies should address your \u201cnew normal\u201d<\/span>\u00a0and what may change in the future depending on the nuances of the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span>It should also be mentioned that\u00a0<\/span>while considering sales and marketing tactics,\u00a0<\/span>it\u2019s important to be\u00a0<\/span>sensitiv<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0to the\u00a0<\/span>fact that many are scared and under a lot of pressure \u2013 keep this in mind when creating copy and imaging.\u00a0<\/span>Also, think about\u00a0<\/span>ways\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>illustrate how\u00a0<\/span>your\u00a0<\/span>company<\/span>\u00a0is making a positive impact\u00a0<\/span>to show you care about your community, not just furthering business goals.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Create focus amongst your team<\/span><\/b>
\nBecause\u00a0<\/span>we\u2019re a couple months into the pandemic, it\u2019s likely that you\u2019ve already communicated with your team, sharing plans for how to overcome the challenges we\u2019re facing.\u00a0<\/span>Due to the continued prevalence of the<\/span>\u00a0coronavi<\/span>rus, the<\/span>se<\/span>\u00a0conversations should continue; offer transparency about your concern<\/span>s, what steps upper management is taking to create a safe\u00a0<\/span>environment, and<\/span>\u00a0hear<\/span>\/address<\/span>\u00a0their concerns.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This communication should\u00a0<\/span>also\u00a0<\/span>be used\u00a0<\/span>to strengthen\u00a0<\/span>your\u00a0<\/span>employee<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0focus on<\/span>\u00a0the company\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0mission<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Remind them\u00a0<\/span>why<\/span><\/i>\u00a0they\u2019re here,\u00a0<\/span>and if necessary, reinvigorate their passion if your team is feeling a little unmotivated.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Plan expense control measures<\/span><\/b>
\nM<\/span>any have<\/span>\u00a0been forced to limit their operations for at least a portion of the COVID-19\u00a0<\/span>shutdowns<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>so\u00a0<\/span>it\u2019s necessary to find ways to control your expenses<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0save money\u00a0<\/span>in order\u00a0<\/span>to prevent layoffs or worse \u2013\u2013\u00a0<\/span>closing<\/span>\u00a0altogether.<\/span>\u00a0We suggest planning these cost-saving measures\u00a0<\/span>to last at least two months beyond any expected \u201creturn to normal\u201d dates, possibly through the rest of 2020.\u00a0<\/span>Think about what expenditures aren\u2019t necessary\u00a0<\/span>at the moment<\/span>\u00a0like traveling<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>some marketing expenses, or\u00a0<\/span>possibly eliminating unnecessary positions.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Research new revenue streams<\/span><\/b>
