Every week we comb through the news to find employment trends affecting the hospitality\u00a0<\/span>industry<\/span>\u00a0so you don\u2019t have to. This week\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0(spooky)<\/span> topic: how you can create a COVID-friendly Halloween and make it feel special amidst the pandemic. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>the coronavirus, Halloween looks a little different this year.\u00a0<\/span>U<\/span>nfortunately, many\u00a0<\/span>cities have \u2018canceled\u2019 Halloween due to concerns surrounding\u00a0<\/span>COVID-19<\/span>\u00a0and whether it\u2019s possible to uphold<\/span>\u00a0health and safety related requirements<\/span>\u00a0during a\u00a0pretty hands-on\u00a0holiday<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fortunately, there are other ways to celebrate a COVID-friendly Halloween <\/span>that<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>can still create the memories many of us hold dear. In this special issue of\u00a0<\/span>Hospitality in the News<\/span><\/i><\/a>, we\u2019ll be looking at a couple\u00a0<\/span>ways for famil<\/span>ies or businesses to\u00a0<\/span>make a COVID-friendly Halloween fun<\/span>\u00a0and provide a little normalcy in our lives.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Creating a COVID-Friendly Halloween<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Go all out with Halloween decorations<\/span><\/b>
\nCreate a creepy Halloween-scape by giving your decorations a boost.\u00a0<\/span>Even though Spirit Halloween stores didn\u2019t open this year, places like Target or Amazon have great options \u2013 or,\u00a0<\/span>make your own<\/span><\/a>! Jazzing up your store front or<\/span>\u00a0front yard can spice up a normally dull walk around the neighborhood and keep people talking for years to come. Just make sure you don\u2019t\u00a0<\/span>create something so scary<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>neighbors call the cops.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make your ow<\/span><\/b>n driving or walking tour<\/span><\/b>
\nGrab\u00a0<\/span>your kids or your friends\u00a0<\/span>and check out the decorations in your neighborhood. Be sure to bring some Halloween treats<\/span>, and don\u2019t feel like you can\u2019t wear a costume!<\/span>\u00a0Or,\u00a0<\/span>check out a haunted place<\/span><\/a>\u00a0near you. But be mindful that you don\u2019t bring home and unintended guests…<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Take it outside<\/span><\/b>
\nIf weather permits, set up an outdoor movie marathon filled with Halloween classics. Or host a mini-costume contest or (socially distanced) parade.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Candy<\/span><\/b>\u00a0scavenger hunt<\/span><\/b>
\nS<\/span>cavenger hunt<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are\u00a0<\/span>versatile enough that anyone can do it. Consider creating clues or hints on how to find candy you\u2019ve hidden<\/span>\u00a0around your home or business<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 like an easter egg hunt.\u00a0<\/span>We promise, even adults will want to get in on the fun.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Socially distanced trick<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>or<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>treating<\/span><\/b>
\nAlthough official Halloween is \u2018canceled\u2019 in many places, there are still people who plan on throwing on their masks and hitting the streets for traditional trick or treating.\u00a0<\/span>If you\u2019re one of those people, or someone who wants to be a trick or treating-friendly house,\u00a0<\/span>keep\u00a0<\/span>these options<\/span>\u00a0in mind<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
