Back to School Season<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Believe it or not, the 2021-2022 school season will be the third\u00a0one\u00a0living with COVID-19\u00a0since the pandemic began. Most parents were hopeful that at this point,\u00a0students would be returning to in-person classes. But as we usher in a new school year,\u00a0an increase in cases across the country\u00a0has led to\u00a0some schools instituting online-classes or a hybrid learning model.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently the CDC updated its guidelines\u00a0for COVID-19 prevention in schools,\u00a0which\u00a0“recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. Children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place.\u201d\u00a0That said, it\u2019s\u00a0still\u00a0up to state and local governments to determine what health and safety\u00a0restrictions are put in place.\u00a0Some states, like California,\u00a0are requiring education staff to get the vaccine or be subjected to weekly testing. Other states, like Texas,\u00a0are attempting to ban mask\u00a0mandates while local municipalities argue their necessity.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the university level, \u201cHundreds of colleges have said the COVID vaccine will be mandatory for fall 2021,\u201d according to <\/span>CNBC<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the Chronicle of Higher Education.\u00a0Like\u00a0local and state governments, it’s up to the university or college to decide\u00a0what pandemic-related restrictions are put in place.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that we understand what we can expect from back to school season, you may be wondering what impact this may have on the hospitality industry. Here are our predictions: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recruiting efforts may improve with kids returning to school<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

For businesses looking for part-time or seasonal employees, back to school season can be a good opportunity to recruit parents looking to make some extra money. Just be sure to offer flexible shifts that can fit into their schedules. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

College hiring efforts will increase<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Colleges and universities will likely\u00a0be\u00a0boosting\u00a0their hiring efforts\u00a0to account for\u00a0all the students taking in-person classes. On campus events, banquets, and the dining facilities are just a few examples of where staff will be needed. As parents get used to their new schedule during back to school season, it\u2019s possible that restaurants will experience a lull in business. It also seems likely that the Delta variant will prevent some people from spending too much time in shared spaces with health concerns on the rise. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hotels should expect early holiday business<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Though\u00a0<\/span>TSA<\/span><\/a> checkpoint numbers are still lower than they were in 2019, an average of 2 million people\u00a0per day\u00a0have been\u00a0traveling\u00a0through airports.\u00a0For that reason, hotels can expect a much busier holiday season than last year.
