Yet there are ten million job openings in the U.S. and 8 million people looking for work \u2013 which doesn\u2019t quite add up. What can we expect to see from 2022 staffing trends?<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Everyone thought pandemic benefits ending would send workers back to the market. Then we thought a pay increase would be the panacea. Yes, there was a small bump. But now what?\u00a0There are several hypotheses among economic\u00a0experts\u00a0about\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">where all the workers have gone<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Among them, many have become remote workers once they figured out\u00a0if \u2013 and\u00a0how\u00a0\u2013\u00a0to work from home. In fact, a new\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/reports\/the-future-of-jobs-report-2020\/digest\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">World Economic Forum<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0report says 84% of employers plan to expand remote working\u00a0in the coming months.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For a staffing company like LGC, what\u2019s more interesting in the WEF report is that 43% of responding leaders say they\u2019re set to reduce the workforce due to technology integration and then another 41% say they\u2019ll use contract workers for task-specialized work throughout the next couple of years.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This, combined with the fact\u00a0that\u00a0it&#8217;s a jobseeker&#8217;s\u00a0market,\u00a0means HR\u00a0teams need to be forward-thinking and creative to <a href=\"https:\/\/lgcassociates.com\/es\/why-knowing-your-market-is-key\/\">sell a desirable workplace environment and culture<\/a> \u2013 especially for gig staffing jobs where workers need to be onsite. How many years have businesses done employee opinion polls with results telling what employees want, yet the feedback isn\u2019t seriously considered\u00a0or implemented?\u00a0Smart C-suite executives will listen and respond quickly to employee ideas, feedback,\u00a0and requests in the New Year.\u00a0Prioritizing the employee experience also helps\u00a0with future recruiting efforts. The top reason employees leave their job is due to management. And when employees know that management is invested in their future, they\u2019ll feel\u00a0less likely to leave their jobs.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Welcoming Immigrant Employees Back to the Workforce<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In a normal year, the U.S. welcomes\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2020\/08\/20\/key-findings-about-u-s-immigrants\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">roughly 1 million<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0immigrants, and roughly\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/data.oecd.org\/migration\/foreign-born-participation-rates.htm\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">three-quarters<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of them end up participating in the labor force. In 2020, with borders closed due to the pandemic, the number dropped\u00a0to\u00a0about\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/no-year-has-seen-legal-immigration-cut-2nd-half-fy-2020\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">263,000<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Industries with labor shortages currently include hospitality and warehousing. Traditionally, 21% of immigrants accept jobs in both of those sectors. With the U.S. reopening borders post-pandemic, we\u2019ll be welcoming these jobseekers while watching and waiting to see the impact to these sectors.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New Focus on Internal Talent<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A recent\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2021-10-20-gartner-survey-reveals-hr-leaders--number-one-priorit\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Gartner<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0survey of 550 HR leaders says\u00a0one of their\u00a0focus\u00a0areas in the New Year is current and future leadership bench strength (45%).\u00a0It might sound strange for a staffing company\u00a0like LGC\u00a0to point out that human resources teams should focus on internal talent\u00a0\u2013 but it\u2019s not. We have over 40 offices\u00a0nationwide\u00a0staffed with creative and talented team members. Keeping them engaged\u00a0and more importantly, investing\u00a0in their\u00a0personal\u00a0talent is a priority.\u00a0While leadership hiring will be key in 2022,\u00a0focusing on the talent we\u00a0already\u00a0have is critical to operations.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Continued Emphasis on Soft Skills<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It\u2019s often been said to \u201chire for culture,\u201d and that\u2019s never been truer. With so many options available, candidates will leave a position if they don\u2019t fit in well with the workplace environment. And conversely, managers will let employees (often with the right technical skills\/experience) go if they don\u2019t mesh well with the current team and environment. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a recent\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.linkedin.com\/2019\/January\/linkedin-releases-2019-global-talent-trends-report\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">LinkedIn Global Talent Trends<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0survey,\u00a092% of hiring professionals\u00a0stated that it\u2019s \u201cincreasingly important\u201d to hire candidates with well-developed soft skills, especially in today\u2019s\u00a0evolving\u00a0workplace. In the same survey, 89% said that bad hires \u201ctypically have poor soft skills.\u201d Solid soft skills can increase both retention and productivity, both critical to business operations in a marketplace where it\u2019s tough to find new employees.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\"> Though we&#8217;ve got this listed under 2022 staffing trends, we don&#8217;t expect to see this &#8216;trend&#8217; go anywhere soon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Defining What Flexibility Means<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Over the last few years, we\u2019ve heard more and more that workers want flexibility. Then the pandemic compounded this need, which is why it&#8217;s one of the major 2022 staffing trends. We know this trend is here to stay, especially as it becomes clearer as to what type of flexibility can be offered. The traditional business leader with an office is trying to figure out how to define flexible work \u2014 hybrid, work-from-home, four-day work weeks, etc. Businesses with customer facing jobs, including retail and hospitality, have figured out how to make it work for their teams since traditional schedules demanded weekends and nights.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">More Personal Settings<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Though we probably won\u2019t see the sprawling Google or Amazon campuses going anywhere,\u00a0offices and other workplaces will likely do away with\u00a0the giant floorplans that (inadvertently) discourage employee interaction.\u00a0This is due in part to much of the corporate workforce being remote.\u00a0Gone are the days of the closed office door; employees want to feel like they\u2019re being heard and seen by management, figuratively and literally.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We&#8217;ve been hearing for a while now that it\u2019s an employee&#8217;s job market. By referencing the 2022 staffing trends, employers and managers have a great opportunity as we head into the new year \u2013 to build a workplace that supports and empowers employees and makes them
