Since 2003, LGC has been setting up shop in major markets around the country. We\u2019re so appreciative of these cities that have welcomed us with open arms into their communities. And one way to show that appreciation is by giving back.<\/span> Keep reading to learn about the 2022 Detroit Pots Walk.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we find charities to partner with, often it\u2019s because an LGC team member recommends the organization to us. Recently we were able to sponsor the 2022 Detroit POTS Walk which was introduced to us by LGC Detroit staffing manager, Marina King. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2022 Detroit POTS Walk<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Read about POTS and what the walk benefits, how LGC contributed, and why this is cause is so <\/span>meaningful <\/span>to Marina. Below she speaks about her experience with POTS:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The POTS walk is important to me because I am a POTS patient! I was diagnosed with POTS about six years ago after having an anaphylactic reaction to the flu shot. I spent 19 days in and out of the hospital over the course of a summer [and] was given multiple incorrect diagnoses before finally seeing a specialized cardiologist who recognized my symptoms. Living and working with chronic illness has been incredibly challenging.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

According to the Dysautonomia International website, \u201cPostural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a form of dysautonomia that is estimated to impact between 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 Americans, and millions more around the world. POTS is a form of orthostatic intolerance that is associated with the presence of excessive tachycardia and many other symptoms upon standing.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dysautonomia refers to a grouping of conditions that are caused by problems with the autonomic nervous system. Though men and boys can develop this condition, approximately 80% of patients are females. Some common symptoms include dizziness\/lightheadedness, fainting, brain fog, heart palpitations, fatigue, and <\/span>more<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Marina also had this to say about the POTS walk: \u201cDysautonomia International is the charity that the POTS walk is benefiting. This will be the first ever Detroit POTS walk! The goal of this event is to raise money for researching more treatment options, causes, and possible cures for POTS. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Right now, there is little research available despite POTS being rather common. We are also hoping the walk will be a great opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges of living with POTS and meet other POTS patients in our community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A close friend of mine is the chairperson for the Michigan walk! We were introduced to each other by a mutual friend after I was diagnosed. She asked me if I would like to help her with the event as her co-chairperson. I am so grateful to be able help put on the first ever Detroit POTS walk in Michigan and create awareness for a chronic illness that affects my life daily.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LGC is proud to be a sponsor of the 2022 Detroit POTS Walk, especially because October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month! The walk was able to raise $25,000 and we\u2019re happy we could take part in this amazing cause. \u201cCommunity outreach and education is so important in making these events a success. I wanted LGC to be a sponsor because… [it] shows that our company is open to being an ally and learning. My own Detroit office has been incredibly understanding and helpful to me when I am having POTS flare ups. LGC agreeing to sponsor this walk means the world t<\/strong><\/span>o me and could help someone seek a diagnosis that could change their life!\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
