When starting a new job, your first week at work can be scary. You might be feeling a bit nervous not knowing what to expect or because you don’t know anyone yet. You’re not alone – we’ve all been there. At LGC, we try to make our new team members feel as comfortable as possible during their first week at work with us.
Recently we were fortunate to hire an amazing new addition to LGC’s marketing team. Kat is a recent graduate of Butler University and will be focusing on content writing and general marketing initiatives. During her first week at work, we asked her to write down her thoughts at the beginning and end of each day, that way candidates can get a good idea of what it’s like to work with LGC. Here’s what she had to say about how her week went:
My First Week at Work with LGC!
Day 1 – Monday
Morning
Feeling a little nervous to start but I’m excited to get going. So far, everyone has been very welcoming. Paperwork is done (hopefully), and now we’re getting started on my first assignments for social media. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of my first day!
Afternoon
After getting through the paperwork, I was able to start working on my first few social media graphics. I got to familiarize myself with all the different branches of LGC and started making a couple general social media posts for them. Next up is some sales posts for ConcessionStaff and my first blog. I’m feeling a bit tired but overall, it was a great introduction and first day.
Day 2 – Tuesday
Morning
After spending most of yesterday just getting acclimated, today is going to focus more on learning specific strategies and voices of the company. I’m going to mostly be working on ConcessionStaff and MarketStaff social media pages. The first thing for today is making a few sales posts for ConcessionStaff for the upcoming football season. We want them to sell ConcessionStaff’s services to potential clients who need staffing for big events and game days. I’m excited to start getting creative and to start putting out my own posts.
Afternoon
After finishing the social media graphics, I spent most of this afternoon starting the blogs I’ll be doing regularly. I started writing the first one I’ll be doing for fall and started planning out the rest of the fall blogs. I also wrote some captions for the sales posts I created this morning. I learned how to ship out marketing materials to other branches as well. Overall, I’m feeling good about where I’m at and the projects I have to work on.
Day 3 – Wednesday
Morning
Today’s big goal is to finish writing my first fall blog: Which LGC Markets Have the Best Fall Views. I’ve outlined everything and just need to get the words down on the computer. I’m also going to start scheduling my first few posts to go out on the ConcessionStaff and MarketStaff Facebook pages. I’m feeling good about all the stuff I’ve done thus far and hope to push towards a productive first week.
Afternoon
I got through half of my first two blogs! It feels really good to be making progress on things already. I ran to Target today quick to pick up some organizational materials for today’s BIG project: the marketing closet. We finished reorganizing, cleaned out a ton of the clutter, and turned it into a functional hub for all things marketing related. It felt really rewarding to get that done and see some tangible results of my efforts so far. I’m feeling like I’ve settled in quick and am already getting familiar with the expectations and responsibilities of my position.
Day 4 – Thursday
Morning
Day 4! Almost done for the week. My biggest goal today is to finish writing, and maybe even proofread, my first fall blog. I may end up doing some more organizing as well. So far, I feel like I’m getting to know everyone a little better each day. I’m also getting a better understanding of where I fit in on the team and how my role intertwines with everyone else’s.
Afternoon
I finished drafting my first fall blog! I even was able to revise it a little bit too, and it should be ready to go out next week. Today’s biggest project aside from the blog was helping with more organization. I also drafted new bios for both the MarketStaff and ConcessionStaff Facebook pages. I’m feeling super happy with finishing the first blog and getting on a schedule with those.
Day 5 – Friday
Morning
The biggest task for today is typing up these entries so that they can be put out sometime next week. I want to get them on the computer and polished up before they turn into an official blog. I’m not sure what else I’ll be working on but I’m sure I’ll find something. I can’t believe my first week is almost over! I feel like I’ve settled in nicely and will be able to continue to progress in the coming weeks.
Afternoon
My first week at work is done!!! I’m excited for the weekend after a really productive week. I got a taste of everything I’m going to be working on here and just exactly what I’ll be responsible for. I think I’ll be able to succeed here and learn some useful marketing skills and tactics. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me at LGC!
We’re so happy to have Kat as part of the LGC team and hope you enjoyed learning about her first week at work!
