LGC Stories | Meet Brandy Slusher, Regional VP and Director of Training and Professional Development
Brandy Slusher grew up in the small town of Winchester, Indiana, and began her career managing food and beverage operations at a family-owned bowling alley in Noblesville. After nine years in that role, she discovered a passion for restaurants and the hospitality industry. But when the business changed ownership, Brandy decided it was time for a new chapter.
While exploring her options, Brandy came across a posting for bartending positions at LGC. She applied, but during the process, she was invited to interview for an Assistant Manager position instead. After her second interview, a few days of silence led her to accept a waitressing job in the meantime.
However, fate intervened. When she returned home after her first day of waitress training, she found an email waiting for her—a job offer from Kim McGuire, who was then the Indianapolis Branch VP. Trusting her instincts, Brandy decided to take a chance on LGC—and she’s never looked back.
From Doubt to Determination
Brandy’s first week on the job wasn’t easy. The work felt unfamiliar, and she questioned whether she’d made the right choice. But something inside her said that LGC was where she was meant to be. With determination and resilience, she pushed through those early doubts, working hard and proving her value to the team.
Since joining LGC in 2015, Brandy has worn many hats, including Staffing Manager, Branch Manager, Area Manager, and now Regional VP and Director of Training and Professional Development. After nine years, her enthusiasm for her role hasn’t waned.
“I love working with my teams and being able to help guide them in their careers to be the most successful they can be,” she shares. “I also love helping with training in our company and getting to see new managers grow.”
Leadership Built on Experience
Brandy’s success at LGC is rooted in her determination and perseverance especially when things are challenging or uncomfortable. This perspective makes her an exceptional leader and mentor, especially for those just starting their journey with us. She believes that strong leadership is key to professional growth, and she credits her own mentors for shaping her career:
- Kim McGuire: “She believed in me, gave me my start, and taught me everything she knows about the business. She’s always there to offer advice.”
- Rachel Martin: “She’s taught me so much about the corporate side of the business and is always available when I need her.”
- George (CEO): “He believed in me and encouraged me to take that first leap into management. Despite being the CEO, he’s always approachable and offers great advice.”
- Glen (COO): “He’s been instrumental in helping build our training team and processes. He tells it like it is and provides clarity in difficult situations.”
Advice for the Next Generation
As Brandy celebrates her ninth anniversary with LGC, she has some words of wisdom for the next generation of Staffing Managers:
“The best advice I ever received was to always teach the person below you your job and learn the job of the person above you. That way, when opportunities arise, you’re prepared—and you’ve prepared someone else. Also, be a sponge. Learn everything you can about LGC and how we operate. If you’re willing to put in the work and follow the recipes for success, you’ll thrive here.”
Life Outside of LGC
When she’s not helping shape the staffing minds of tomorrow, Brandy enjoys spending time with her husband and family. She loves cooking for holiday meals and hosting cookouts, and she cherishes moments with her three grandkids, four dogs, and two cats.
