Working as a hotel room attendant is a hugely important job. If a guest room isn’t sparkling clean, its occupant has the potential to never stay at the property again and might even post damaging reviews online encouraging others to steer clear as well.

Of course, you don’t just have to get a room clean — you have to do it fast. As a hotel room attendant, excellent time management skills are a must. Here are a few tips to help manage your time wisely, so you don’t have to choose between doing great work and finishing up on time.

Four Time Management Tips for Hotel Room Attendant

Make Sure Cart is Fully Stocked

Having to run back to the stockroom for towels, shampoo, cleaner and other essentials takes valuable time. It’s easy to assume your cart is fully stocked and ready to go, but you won’t actually know for sure unless you do a quick check at the beginning of your shift. This will only take a minute or two, but will save you tons of time if you find that anything needs replenished.

Watch the Clock

As a hotel room attendant, you’re probably allowed a certain amount of time to clean each room, but it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re in the zone. Make sure you’re sticking to your schedule by checking the clock regularly to see if you’re where you should be for this point in the process. If you’re falling behind, you’ll know to pick up the pace a bit.

Don’t Cut Corners

It might sound a bit cliché, but cleaning standards are put in place for a reason. If you try to skip a few steps or take the easy way out on a few tasks, you’ll likely cause more work for yourself in the end. When your supervisor inspects the room, they will notice the shortcuts you took, and they’ll just make you re-do your work, which will ultimately cause the task to take longer than if you would’ve completed it properly the first time.

Eliminate Distractions

Cleaning hotel rooms is largely solo work, but that doesn’t mean you can get away with slacking. Constantly checking your phone or turning the television on in the room will slow you down, so resist the urge to do anything your supervisor wouldn’t approve of if you were working under their watchful eye.
