One of the biggest decisions we make in our lives is what career path we’ll choose. According to author Jessica Price-Jones – in her book Happiness at Work 90,000 hours of our life will be dedicated to our work. Knowing how to find your passion at work will make those 90,000 hours feel well worth it.

So how do you find that “perfect” job? Here is a short list to consider when finding a job you are passionate about.

  1. What excites you in life.
  2. What is something you could learn about forever and never get bored.
  3. Think about your own strengths and what comes easy to you.
Why You Should Find Your Passion at Work

There are a few benefits when you find your passion at work. When you are doing something you love, you won’t settle for mediocre work and will want to produce the best. This in turn creates a better workplace for you and the people around you. When everyone has the same goal, the way the office or company operates is different. The company is filled with passion and drive. This passion and drive will be noticed by consumers. At LGC, it’s important to us that our team works cohesively to accomplish our mission. And one way we’re able to do that is by hiring people who are passionate about what they do.

Another benefit when you find your passion at work is it won’t feel like a chore. Some days might be harder than others, but when it does get hard you can remind yourself of why you are doing this work. Life is too short to not do something you love!

Searching for your passion can be a process. Few people have the advantage of knowing from the moment they are born what they want to do. But for most of us finding your passion can take some time. Some people don’t find their passion till they’re 80 years old! So don’t feel discouraged if it takes you longer to figure out your “purpose”. You will need to step out of your comfort zone to achieve this.

One of the greatest motivational speakers, Denis Waitley said it best. “A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.”

When you do find your niche, put all your energy into that. Become an expert in your passion. This is how you will become successful. Success doesn’t always mean making the most money; it’s doing something you are passionate about and doing it well. Think about how freeing that sounds.

Freedom is another word that comes to mind when I think about the benefits of finding your passion. When you are stuck doing something you hate, you will feel trapped and the time can go by very slowly. When you pick your passion, you will achieve professional freedom. You will think “I am choosing to do this,” “I want to do this”.

Lastly and the most importantly, enjoying what you do will lead to a happier life. Working for your passion will improve your mental, emotional, and even physical health. When you are mentally healthy, it’s easier to be healthy in ALL areas of your life.

Now that you know how to find your passion at work, what are you waiting for? Go out there and find it!
