LGC Stories | Meet Rey, Senior Staffing Manager in Indianapolis, IN

Today, we’re excited to introduce Rey Simental, whose journey with LGC exemplifies the power of perseverance, creativity, and a passion for growth.

Life Before LGC

Rey’s story begins in Mexico, where his love for creativity and food first took root. After moving to the U.S., he started his career as a Garde Manger apprentice, mastering the art of food displays and buffet presentations. It was a role that challenged his creativity and gave him the confidence to lead, but he always knew there was more to achieve.

When Rey joined LGC eight years ago as an Assistant Manager, he brought that same drive for excellence into his new role. His culinary background became a key advantage, allowing him to connect with hotels and venues in need of skilled support. “I knew exactly what they were looking for,” he shares, “and scouting skilled talent has become one of my specialties.”

A Passion for People

Recruiting is Rey’s favorite part of his role. Meeting new people and encouraging them to develop new skills is at the heart of what he does. “I tell them not to settle. Learn a new skill. Become a multi-skilled associate and make money,” he says.

Rey has also made a significant impact in the Indianapolis office, LGC’s largest branch, by bringing in top talent. He works closely with banquet servers, often visiting them on the job to take photos and videos to celebrate their accomplishments. His hands-on approach and genuine care for his team are just a few of the qualities that make Rey a standout leader.

But his journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Language barriers can sometimes create obstacles for Hispanic associates, but Rey is proud of how LGC provides resources like free language classes and daily opportunities to practice while earning a living.

Guided by Mentorship and Friendship

Throughout his career, Rey has been supported by the strong friendships and mentorship he’s found at LGC. He credits Kim McGuire, his boss, for helping him through challenges and showing him how to find growth opportunities in every situation. “She’s been a key part of my journey,” he shares.

Lessons for the Next Generation

In his time with LGC, Rey has learned the importance of getting to know his team on a personal level. “Get to know your talent, our associates. See their strengths and help them grow. Coach them through their journey. Hear their story and make a connection. That creates camaraderie and loyalty to our LGC brand,” he advises.

Finding Balance

When Rey isn’t scouting talent or coaching associates, he cherishes quiet moments at home. “I love my Zen moments of quietness,” he says with a smile. Whether it’s relaxing with his dogs or taking time to decompress, Rey prioritizes mental health as a key part of his success.
