Recently LGC had the opportunity to provide staff for two army bases who were preparing for refugees arrival in the U.S. from Afghanistan. Read on to learn about how this came to be and what it means to LGC.
LGC Partners with Client to Support Refugees Arrival in the U.S.
When a close contact reached out to LGC to help with staffing to prepare for refugees arrival in the U.S. Soon after we received the request, we reached out to the client to secure a contract and got to work. After successfully fulfilling that staffing request, we were asked to help Fort Pickett in Virginia who was also in need of extra hands. Courtney Hunter, Special Projects Supervisor at LGC, traveled to both Fort McCoy and Fort Pickett to oversee operations and ensure our new client was happy.
LGC has been staffing integral positions at these army bases, assisting with cooking meals and serving them to the refugees. Although this isn’t uncommon work for our employees, we don’t often have the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s experience like this. Here’s what Courtney had to say about how this assignment feels different than staffing an “average” LGC shift:
“It definitely feels great to be a part of something that is bigger than a typical hospitality event. These refugees are very much in need of comfort and routine, and it’s very rewarding to be a part of it. It is a very complex operation, with a lot of moving parts, but knowing that we are contributing to a very important cause keeps us going. This is something we hear from the candidates as well, and it’s always nice to have the candidates completely buy into what we are doing.”
Every shift LGC staffs, whether big or small, can make a positive difference in someone’s day. But it’s not often we get the opportunity to provide a little comfort for those who really need it. We hope in the future we continue to assist with requests like this.
