New Year, New You. Right? Does that “new you” include a new job? If you’re ready to take the next step in your career but aren’t sure where to start, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of our favorite job search resources that have helped us in our own searches. Give them a try, and let us know which one becomes your go-to!

To Find the New Job…

The first step in the job search process is getting on job boards and exploring what’s out there. If you’re unsure what you’re looking for, take some time to reflect on your skills, talents, and passions to narrow your search. Some of our favorite job boards include:

  • LinkedIn: LinkedIn isn’t just a job board—it’s where your professional network lives. Leverage your connections to request recommendations, ask questions before applying, and build personal relationships with companies.
  • Glassdoor: Glassdoor stands out with reviews from current and former employees, giving you insights into company culture. Use this information to ask informed questions during interviews and determine if the company is the right fit.
  • Indeed: One of the most popular job sites, Indeed is great for finding a wide range of opportunities. While it lacks personalization, pairing it with LinkedIn can help you gather information about roles while strengthening your application through networking.
  • LGC: At LGC, we make it easy to find a job, because we do the job searching for you! If you’re a Hospitality Industry professional looking for a temporary, temp-to-hire, or permanent position, we can match your skills and experience to the right job for you.
  • Specialized Job Boards: If you’re in a niche field or looking for remote work, platforms like Dice (tech jobs), Shiny (C-Suite roles), and Remote.co (remote opportunities) can tailor your search to specific criteria.

For Tips on How to Get the New Job…

Starting a job search can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to building a resume and crafting a standout cover letter. Thankfully, there are resources to simplify the process:

  • Forbes: Forbes offers articles packed with expert tips on resume building, cover letters, networking, personal branding, skill development, and more. Written by career coaches and business leaders, the advice here is invaluable.
  • Harvard Business Review (HBR): Like Forbes, HBR provides industry-specific insights and tips to help you impress recruiters and position yourself as an informed candidate. Their resources also include leadership advice, career growth strategies, and self-improvement tips.
  • Indeed Blog: Beyond job postings, Indeed has a blog with guidance for every stage of the job search. Their Instagram page is also worth following for quick, actionable tips.
  • The Muse: The Muse combines a job board, career coaching, and advice hub. Whether you’re looking for interview tips, career path guidance, or workplace advice, their unique voice and comprehensive resources make this platform a standout.

To Put Together Your Application Materials…

Once you’ve got a plan, it’s time to execute. These tools can help you create polished application materials:

  • Canva: Revamp the look of your resume and cover letter with Canva. Just ensure your design stays professional and easy to read—if applicant tracking systems (ATS) can’t scan your resume, it won’t get noticed.
  • Google Docs: Use Google Doc templates designed for ATS compatibility. These templates make it easy to create professional resumes and cover letters that stand out.
  • Microsoft Word: For non-Google users, Word templates are equally effective for crafting clean, well-formatted documents.
  • Grammarly: Don’t underestimate the importance of error-free writing. Use Grammarly or a similar tool to catch typos and refine your grammar for a polished final product.

To Enhance Your Resume…

If your resume needs a little extra something to stand out, consider adding certifications or completing licensing programs. These resources can help:

  • Coursera: Coursera offers degrees, certifications, and courses from over 350 companies and universities. Whether you’re learning a new skill or enhancing an existing one, you can showcase your achievements on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
  • LinkedIn Learning: From beginner courses like Microsoft Excel to advanced topics like Generative AI, LinkedIn Learning lets you build in-demand skills that make your application shine.
  • Grow with Google: Google provides career certificates, courses, and training on topics like cybersecurity, digital marketing, project management, and more—all designed to boost your expertise and credibility.

2024 was one of the most competitive job markets yet, and 2025 is shaping up to be just as challenging. That’s why it’s crucial to use your resources, enhance your application, and make yourself stand out. With these tools and tips, you’ll be well on your way to landing the job of your dreams.
