Every week we comb through the news to find employment trends affecting the hospitality industry so you don’t have to. This week’s topic: new hospitality positions we’ll see in the age of COVID.

New Hospitality Positions We’ll See This Summer

Normally around this time, bars, restaurants, and hotels are in the thick of their busy season, balancing busy day-to-day operations with staff maintenance in order to ensure success for their guests. But this year looks a little different as our country continues to navigate the novel coronavirus, with most venues only opening under strict conditions.

Although there’s still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of business operations, one thing is for sure: health and safety is the number one guest priority when visiting a food or beverage establishment.

We know that one of the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by social distancing. And while most bars and restaurants are operating under capacity guidelines to allow for social distancing, it can still be challenging to manage with so many moving pieces. That’s why this summer, we’ll be seeing a couple new hospitality positions created to uphold these distancing guidelines, such as:

  • Social distancing monitors. These staff members’ focus is to ensure guests are maintaining the 6-foot apart distance from one another. Monitors should be placed in any area of your restaurant where there’s normally a lot of traffic, like the front door, patio, or bar.
  • Bathroom attendants. Another area where customers can easily congregate is the bathroom. Keep business moving smoothly by stationing an attendant in or near the bathroom.
  • Temperature takers. Some businesses require customers to have their temperature taken upon arrival to make sure they don’t have a fever/aren’t presenting any COVID symptoms. Rather than allocating this responsibility to someone who can’t fully commit to the process, choose one person (or a couple people) to handle that job.

By taking these steps to protect and prioritize your guest’s safety, they’ll feel more comfortable visiting your business now or in the future. LGC can help by supplying any of the above new hospitality positions (and more!). Contact us today to see how we can work for you. Â
